Environmental Issues
The management of industrial effluents by existing industrial units is one of the most discarded subjects, especially in the developing countries. People, animals and plants around a badly managed industrial unit suffer the consequences. Propaganda, education and awareness campaigns to make the people use their collective strength to solve such environmental problems are the thrust areas of the Foundation. Efforts are also be made to force the authorities to take punitive and corrective measures.
Environmental Protection
Deforestation, soil erosion, untreated industrial effluents, accumulation of plastic waste materials and all forms of atmospheric pollution will destroy the environmental equilibrium. The Foundation considers educative and active involvement in environmental protection a vital necessity of our times. Besides practising environmentally safe methods in all its activities, it stands in the forefront of popular action to safeguard the environment.
Natural/Geographical Restoration
Endemic natural eco-systems that have evolved through millions of years have been on the brink of being eternally lost due to human developmental activities. The Foundation takes up the restoration of such eco-systems as the most immediate project of vital importance. The first step is to stop all activities that will harm the fragile ecology. A thorough study is undertaken and concrete steps taken to restore the botanical and zoological specimens that have been removed.
Protection of Genetic-Resources
Genetic resources have been depleted due to the uncontrolled encroachment of man on the environment. The interdependence of insect and plant world requires that one must exist for the other to continue existing. Restoration of botanical species and dependent insect species go a long way in protecting the precious genetic resources that are unique and endemic in nature. A dedicated team of experts are employed for this purpose.

Sustainable Agriculture
Intensive chemical manures and pesticides used excessively in modern agricultural methods will exhaust the nutritional intake of the plants and ultimately are detrimental to agriculture itself. Sustainable agricultural practises using eco-friendly natural resources are beneficial to the soil and profitable in the long run. The Foundation strictly follows the guidelines for the maintenance and protection of the natural eco-system while teaching farmers to make the most out of organic practices in agriculture.
Traditional Practice and Modern Technology
The time proven agricultural practices traditionally followed by the native farming community must be continued regarding the methods of preparing the soil, sowing the seeds, weeding, etc. At the same time modern technology is fully utilised in areas where it will benefit the harvest without badly affecting the quality of the product and the employment opportunity of the labourers.
Amalgamation of Technologies
While making use of innovative and alternative sources of energy and technologies, the traditional and current energy sources and technologies are not discarded. The amalgamation of new technologies is a gradual developmental process, replacing the traditional technologies without destabilising the whole machinery that will pave the way to a higher level of eco-friendly and sustainable utilization of technologies. The technologies are wedded to the needs of the times and not for replacing human resources. The technologies used for value adding processes must be quality-enhancing and consumer friendly
Using Satellite Technology
Several satellites are orbiting the earth and gathering vital information on climatic changes and allied matters. The Foundation taps this source for the advance programming of all the farming activities. Right from the selection of the seeds to be sown and the time for the preparation of the seed beds, the information received from the satellites can guide the farmer in every step. The Foundation considers it important to assimilate the latest information and make use of it.
Eco-Technology
Each technological breakthrough is weighed in the balance of eco-friendliness and the technology that is not eco-friendly is discarded. The Foundation does not utilise any technology that does not conform to the strict norms of environmental stability.
Seed Bank and Protection
With the international seed companies distributing terminator seeds, the seed store of the traditional farmer has been endangered. The Foundation intervenes to protect the traditional seeds without modern mutations so that they may be available to the future generations.
Observatories
One or more observatory are to be set up to be of help in the study the climatic changes, the rainfall and wind velocity, the duration of sunlit hours and the intensity of the sunlight, etc. The information collected is analysed by a team of experts and conclusions arrived at regarding the farming strategy to be implemented. The data are made available to other interested individuals, institutions and organizations and discussed for fruitful interaction.
Laboratories
Laboratories for testing the soil samples and for gauging the nutritional and other qualities of edible products, for treatment against plant and animal diseases and for quality test of exportable produces are set up. These laboratories are made available to the small farmers and small scale industrialists who do not have their own such facilities.
Documentation & Libraries
All the researches, experiments, training classes and farming activities are well documented and kept for future references in a well maintained library. The library will be stocked with books on farming methods, environmental issues, non-formal education, entrepreneurship, cooperative movement, community health and hygiene, etc. All the records and books will be made available to the genuine students and researchers at a nominal fee.
Training Facilities
Well furnished class rooms and halls with all the latest audio visual teaching equipments are a part and parcel of every training unit. Batches of women, youth and farmers are given training in eco-friendly farming methods, vigilance against environmental hazards, career oriented courses, formation of Self Help Groups, sanitation and health programmes and participation in electoral process.
Empowerment of Farmers
Education is the instrument of empowerment. Facilities for education and training in eco-friendly farming methods and modern technological advancements are provided throughout the year to empower the farmers and make them economically self reliant. Such self reliance certainly makes them more socially elevated. Multimedia materials are prepared and distributed to increase awareness among the farming community.
Organic Farming and certification
Farmers are trained and educated through multimedia campaigns to realize that chemical fertilizers and pesticides in large quantities will ruin their harvest, their health and their finances in the long run. Sagacious change over to organic farming methods does not result in decrease of the quantity produced and fetches even a higher price for the same quantity produced. The organic way of farming, harvesting, storing, transporting, processing and marketing of the agricultural produces presupposes the complete avoidance of chemical products. For this, the Organisation educates and trains the farmers on the effective methods of production and utilisation of bio-fertilizers, bio-pesticides and bio-fungicides. The earth worms and insectivorous insects will be widely used for soil nourishment and pest control. The world is getting more aware of the value of organic farm products and farmers are trained to make use of this spreading awareness. The Foundation helps the farmers to change over to organic farming and get necessary certification for marketing.
Bio-Dynamic Farming
Wherever the soil has been eroded of its fertility, the soil is re-fertilized. Natural manure sources such as cow dung, cow horn manure, vermi-compost and such other fertilizing materials are used for this. Leaving the land fallow for a season and treatment with natural manure makes the soil once again rich in all elements of fertility. The Foundation takes up such lands and restores them to acceptable fertility standards.
Experimental & Demonstration Areas
Specially ear marked areas are allotted for experimental farming methods and for demonstration of the success of such methods. The farming community is invited to participate and study in the experiments in the field. Seeds and saplings are distributed at nominal cost to the farmers so that they will be benefited by these experiments. The services of agricultural experts are made use of in such activities.
Water Management
The whole world is gripped by a fear of imminent scarcity of desalinated drinking and irrigation water. So water management is of utmost importance. Training in harvesting of rainwater and collection of rainwater in land tracts situated on upper slopes by digging trenches and building walls is imparted to all concerned. The Foundation gives such training through multimedia campaigns and helps in building and maintaining water conservation systems. Multiple usage of the same water is also encouraged to help in the conservation of water..
Economic Strategies
Each unit is self reliant and self sustaining in all respects. The produces are sold and the wastages are utilized for other farming activities. The energy needs are met through bio-energy systems. The fluctuations in the market are countered through impeccable storage methods. The training and educational activities are financed on a shared basis, meeting half the expense from the profits and the other half as fees from the beneficiaries. The value adding processes enhances the price of the produces reaping profits to be used for the welfare activities of the organisation.
Involvement in Food Security
The production of food on our earth is not increasing at the rate of growth of population and the subsequent rise in demand for the same. So the food security of the future generations has to be taken care of when planning agricultural operations. Increasing yield and shortening the duration of growth are the factors considered. All the latest technological progress are fully exploited to increase yield without lowering quality and to increase the area under cultivation.
Group Farming
The Foundation encourages group farming through multimedia as it reduces expenses and effort involved in each farming activity and gives the farmers a sense of unity and team work. It also lightens the burden of marketing the produces, especially the mass transportation of a large quantity. Irrigation, manure-application, weeding, etc., are more effective and better organised if done on a large scale by a group of farmers.
Waste Management
All the waste materials that cannot be utilised for consumption by other segments in the same unit or for the generation of bio-energy are recycled as bio-fertilizer. Training on waste management is given to farmers and youth and practical demonstrations given to them within the farm itself. Any waste, like plastic materials, that cannot be recycled is scientifically incinerated.
Farm Tourism
Organic farms and eco-friendly farming methods without discontinuing the traditional farming systems are attractive destinations to the eco-tourist. The tourist will bring in revenue not only by his visit but also by way of purchases of produces as the produces will be organic. As eco-tourism is gaining in popularity there is much scope for benefiting out of this trend by laying out organic farms with the bare minimum of infrastructure.
Help in Natural Calamities
When natural calamities strike, the bewildered affected people will be seeking immediate help from all sources. The Foundation will use all its available machinery and provisions to alleviate the sufferings of the neediest people on a war footing. The rehabilitation work will be taken up with the assistance of benefactors, as soon as the emergency relief work comes to an end. The organisation will co-operate with like-minded individuals, institutions and other organizations to see that the help reaches where, when and how it is needed most.
Communication Methods
The methods of communication that the Foundation utilises includes all forms of print media like books, magazines, bit notices, pull-outs, brochures, pamphlets, catalogues, bulletins, newsletters, posters, banners and hoardings and electronic media like telecommunication, internet, film, television, radio, CD Rom and any other instrument or medium that will be available in future, besides traditional communication through speeches, songs and slogans in direct actions of intervention with mass support.
Collaborations and Support
Support is sought from and given to all like-minded national/ international agencies and organisations provided their actions do not go against the declared objectives and ideals of the Foundation, like UNEP, UNESCO, UNICEF, GEF, WWF, World Bank, ADB, UNHABITAT, etc. Any other organization or agency that comes forward to give any assistance, financial, technical, advisory or otherwise, in the above-mentioned projects and initiatives of the Foundation is supported by the Foundation. In global issues, like finding a solution for global warming, or making efforts to reduce the bad effects of climatic aberrations, the Foundation plays collaborative roles in initiatives taken by other like-minded organizations.
Awards and Recognitions
Awards and recognitions are instituted by the Foundation to honour the individuals, institutions and organisations contributing most to further the objectives of the Foundation, in the different fields of activity. A panel of eminent persons in each category elects the award-worthy persons/institutions/organisations and the awards are given to them or to their nominees/representatives at well-organized functions. |
