In a fast-changing world, and one that is flooded with mementos and images, some showpiece relics of the past are auctioned at exorbitant prices in the Western World where everything is for sale and purchase. But there are so many places and materials which form the common heritage of mankind that are left to decay and die in the inclemency of public apathy. Culturally important sites, archaeological remnants, classical dance forms and folk performances, traditional costumes and culinary delights, arts and crafts, songs and stories, dialects and ceremonies, all are gradually disappearing from the face of the earth, because the modern man has no time to care in his hectic race to make a living or become rich. The Heritage India Foundation considers its first responsibility to protect these and to publicise these so that more attention may be drawn towards these treasures of our past, our heritage.
The limited natural resources of the earth are being plundered by greedy men whose only concern is profiteering out of them. Water, metals, minerals, gas reserves, forests and living things are all being overexploited. Industrial pollution and atmospheric pollution caused by the uncontrolled use of CFC and such other harmful substances are causing depletion of ozone layer, global warming and resultant climatic aberrations. The Foundation considers its second responsibility to protect the earth and its natural resources so that the coming generations may not blame us for their miseries. All plant life and animal life, especially the endangered species, must be saved from extinction for the future of the earth, for our sons and daughters.
Bureaucratic and political corruption and nepotism, rivalries based on caste and creed and race and place, illiteracy and child abuse, discrimination against women and terrorism are the social evils that make the life of the common people miserable today. It is the responsibility of the Foundation to campaign against these social evils and to organise the common man to stand up against the formidable forces of communalism and terrorism.
Participatory democracy, good governance and decentralisation of power, universal literacy, women empowerment, poverty alleviation, equitable distribution of the benefits of developmental progress, awareness on health and hygiene, propagation of nature-based remedies and alternative systems of treatment, importance of breast feeding and such other socially beneficial ideas should be inculcated into the common people to make our world a better place.
