Eco-Tourism
Eco-friendly measures are being implemented in every sphere of life and tourism is no exception. Eco-tourism is the development and utilisation of tourist facilities with the least damage to the ecological status of the place and the inhabitants of the place, including animals and plants. It may also mean tourism traffic by people who are interested in the protection of the eco-systems and are content to stay within the limitations of comfort and restrictions of infrastructure that the eco-system provides. So it is the tourism of the lovers of nature. They may come to study the aboriginals, the animals or the plants separately or the whole eco-system as an entity, or they may come to just live with nature, in the pristine environment of natural beauty. The Foundation encourages eco-tourism, connecting it with responsible tourism, and ensuring that the financial benefits are shared with the native inhabitants of the place, and not cornered by a few big sharks engaged in tourism as a business.
Eco-Farming
Eco-farming is another eco-friendly activity that is encouraged and promoted by the Foundation. In eco-farming, the use of chemical fertilisers and pesticides is minimised and bio-fertilisers and bio-pesticides or other nature-based methods are used instead. Soil conservation and water conservation are given great importance and measures are taken to ensure these. Terminator seeds and such other anti-nature interventions are campaigned against. Traditionally proven methods of planting and weeding are encouraged. Farmers are organised as Self Help Groups and group farming is advocated for reducing expenditure and increasing profits. The Foundation also encourages eco-farming by helping and training the farmer in improving storage facilities and streamlining value-adding processes. It also helps them get better prices through teaching innovative marketing strategies and obtaining certifications for organic products from concerned authorities.
Environmental Security
Environmental security can be defined as the interactive relationship between security concerns like armed conflicts between nations and the natural environment of the earth. It is environmental viability for life support of all living things on the earth with the three sub-elements which are (1) preventing/repairing military damage to the environment, (2) preventing/responding to environmentally caused conflicts and (3) protecting the environment due to its inherent value. The Foundation stands for a complete dismantling of all nuclear weapons and not just non-proliferation, as the nations that already possess the technology and materials clamour for. It is the only way of preventing a major military damage to the environment as a whole. In environmentally caused conflicts, like river disputes, the Foundation stands for amicable settlement between the true representatives of the people and not between military commanders who will not be interested in peaceful settlements or between selfish political stalwarts who will be only interested in the political mileage that can be made out of the conflict. |
